Vital link offers two basic types of ground run-up facilities, to mitigate the noise generated from aircraft maintenance activities conducted at military installations and civilian airport facilities.
One cost effective solution to meet these demands has been the construction of three (3) sided open air runup pens, typically referred to as Ground Run-up Enclosures (GREs). These facilities are open on one end, to allow the aircraft to be installed and removed, and typically include a rear blast deflector and acoustically treated sidewalls. They are required to attenuate noise during the test of in frame aircraft engines, while providing a stable aerodynamic profile which does not inhibit proper engine operation and test.
The second option is for aircraft noise suppressors. These typically feature a close coupled exhaust system that the aircraft backs up to and a set of close coupled intake silencing silencers that are placed around the engine intake duct. A control cab is provided adjacent to the facility for operators to observe the aircraft testing.
